Buy the right products

High porosity hair

These products are advice and may work well for some people but not for others. The CG process is very personal and can differ per person. These products help you start or restart. Feel and see how your curls perform on these products. If you are not satisfied after using one or more products, try replacing them with another product with or without protein, or check the tips below.

Our tips

  • Don't clarify too often, only if you experience a lot of build-up or if your curls are no longer cooperating well.
  • Try to regularly use Olaplex No. 3 or Bond Curl from Curlsmith; these are repair treatments, not masks, so always follow with nourishing products like a mask or shampoo/conditioner.
  • Highly porous hair often appreciates a co-wash.
  • Don't leave products like a mask on for too long, maximum 10 minutes.
  • Use protein products with medium to large proteins, such as Wheat, Oat, Soy, Quinoa.
  • Rinse your hair with lukewarm to cold water to close your hair cuticles.

  • If you have fine hair, try diffusing your hair instead of letting it air dry. Water can weigh hair down the longer it stays in, resulting in stretched-out curls.
  • If you have thick hair, you can also use heavier products (with butters and oils like castor/avocado oil in the first 10 ingredients).
  • If you have fine hair, avoid heavier products.
  • If you experience stiff hair after using protein, replace it (temporarily) with a protein-free product.
  • If you experience stretched-out curls and your hair feels very soft, try adding a little more protein.
Washing schedule

How do you get started?

Start the CG method with:

When you start with the CG method, we want to keep it simple for you. Over time, you'll increasingly read that others do things differently, but we advise experimenting with that once you've been in the process for a while.

  • Start with a final wash (Jumbo's Elke Dag shampoo, or Kruidvat's Daily Mild Shampoo) You will not use this again unless you have used wrong products, or suffer from build-up, or have dyed your hair.
  • Follow with a mask (max. 1x per week)
  • Leave-in conditioner
  • Gelcream or mousse

Next wash day:

  • Co-wash or shampoo with conditioner
  • Leave-in conditioner
  • Gel, cream or mousse

Between wash days, you can refresh your curls if necessary:

  • Lightly dampen your hair with a spray bottle to reactivate the products in your hair
  • Wet your hands, apply a little gel or cream, and use praying hands over your curls, scrunch, and let it dry
  • Refresh with a mousse on dry hair
  • Refresh with a gel, cream, or mousse on damp hair
