Frequently used ingredients in products and what do they actually do with your hair?
Coconut oil
Is perfect for retaining moisture in your hair.
Aloe Vera Juice / Gel
Works as a natural conditioner. It softens your curls, gives shine, reduces frizz, strengthens hair and helps prevent hair loss.
Vegetable Glycerin
Vegetable glycerin creates a layer of oil over your hair strand, helps retain moisture. It is great to use glycerine-based products in moderately moist air. Not too moist, not too dry. "Glycerine works best on natural hair when it pulls moisture out of the air to keep our locks hydrated all day long". When used in the right climatic conditions, glycerin can really help to define your curl pattern! When used in the wrong conditions, this can cause dry hair. “If the area around the hair is drier than the hair, it is possible that Glycerine pushes moisture from the hair to the dry air to balance the moisture in the atmosphere.
Jojoba oil
Suitable for dry hair, prevents breakage, seals your hair, retains moisture and is 1 of the lightest oils.
Castor oil
Hydrates the hair, prevents your scalp from becoming dry, promotes hair growth.
Shea butter
Soften your hair and good sealer. Creates a layer of oil on top of your hair strand, reducing the amount of moisture that is lost.
What if you have to use products without protein but it contains ingredients that can react as protein?
You can hardly escape that, there are few products WITHOUT protein that also contain NO ingredients that can react as protein. Below a few of these common ingredients.
Aloe vera, Castor Oil, Glycine, Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Proline Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil.
The word says enough "can". It is up to you to discover what makes your hair different or that your curls do not like these ingredients.
